All your medical records and results will be entirely confidential. We recommend a health screen every 2 years for those under 50 and annually for those over 50.
As its name implies this is a simple 20-minute consultation with a GP who will take a concise medical history, examine you fully from top to toe and organise screening tests as required. The only difference between this and a normal GP consultation is that you feel well; you aren’t looking for treatment but instead prevention.
This is directed more at the younger patient below 40.
Cost: £80 consultation fee plus any further tests required
This medical is far more comprehensive and is directed at anyone who truly wants a thorough check. It is aimed at detecting common medical problems including high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, lung disease, anaemia, infections, kidney and liver disease, calcium levels, iron levels, prostate cancer for men, thyroid problems (which are common in women) and vitamin D deficiency which can lead to bone and muscle aches and general tiredness.
An appointment is first booked with a highly experienced nurse and a urine and stool test kit is posted out to you before you attend the appointment. The appointment will last roughly an hour and the nurse will carry out the following:
- Blood Tests (Please see list below)
- “Q-risk” Assessment – a cardiovascular disease calculator
- Height, weight, BMI and blood pressure readings
- Peak Expiratory Flow Rate Measurement – to check lung function
- ECG to check for heart disease and rhythm abnormalities.
Once all the test results have come back from the laboratory, (about 3-4 days later), the 40-minute examination will take place with the G.P. They will conduct a full head to toe examination of your body including a prostate and testicular exam for men and a breast examination for women. The G.P will then discuss your test results and address any concerns, symptoms, past medical history, family history and medication with you. The G.P can then issue any prescriptions needed and make referrals to any necessary specialists.
The Blood Tests include:
- Full lipid profile (cholesterol and more)
- Full blood count and ESR (non-specific inflammation)
- Kidney function
- Liver function
- Bone profile
- Thyroid function
- Diabetes check
- Vitamin D level
- Prostate specific antigen
Further tests and services if required will be charged as extra—this includes cervical smear, pelvic examination, sexual health screen, chest X-ray etc.
After your appointment with the G.P you will be sent a Personalised Health Screening Report containing all the results of your tests and examinations. The report will also include recommendations and advice if needed to improve your health going forward.
