IgG antibody test

The IgG antibody test detects if you have previously had the virus.

IgG antibody test: £75

The test we use is provided by The Doctors Laboratory (TDL) based in London. TDL are a medically led laboratory, established in 1987. It is the largest independent provider of clinical laboratory diagnostic services in the UK. We use the laboratory for all our blood, urine and swab testing and have used them for several years. The test has been produced by Abbott laboratories and has been approved for use by Public Health England.

Antibodies develop from a few days to a few weeks after infection with the virus but last for a long period afterwards, so testing should be undertaken at least 14 days following the initiation of symptoms.

The tests are accurate and a positive result should mean that you have immunity to catching the virus again, but it is currently not known if this immunity will be full or partial, or for how long it may last.

The test is carried out by taking a sample of blood from a vein in your arm. A nurse or doctor will carry out the procedure in our clinic and the results will be emailed to you within a couple of days.
