Health vaccinations
We offer a wide range of vaccinations to protect health and enhance well being for adults and children, in addition to travel vaccinations.
Hepatitis B
For most employees who work in a health or social care sector, this vaccination is essential. We also offer the immunity blood test to check the amount of Hepatitis B antibodies.
Hepatitis B vaccination: 3 doses required – £60 per dose
Hepatitis B immunity blood test: total cost including the nurse appointment – £56.50
Chickenpox
Chickenpox is a common viral infection usually caught in childhood. It’s highly contagious and is spread through coughing, sneezing and direct contact.
Symptoms do generally get worse with age however, often requiring time off from childcare, school or work.
Chickenpox vaccination: 2 doses required – £70 per dose
B12
Vitamin B12 injections are a very effective way of raising blood levels of B12 and reversing a deficiency.
If you have not had a B12 injection at Dorset Private GP before, then we will arrange for you to have a 20-minute GP consultation first. If the GP is happy to proceed with the injection, then this will be administered in the same appointment. After the initial GP appointment, a B12 injection can be administered at set intervals.
GP appointment plus B12 injection – £99
B12 injection only appointment – £45
Hay fever
90% of people should respond well to hay fever treatments such as antihistamine tablets, eye drops and nasal sprays. When medications are not effective, there are alternatives. We have several options for this with the ultimate being Immunotherapy which we offer through our allergy clinic, and is a method that helps your body gradually become less allergic. Please call reception to discuss our hay fever options.
Shingles
Shingles is caused by the dormant chickenpox virus becoming active again. This is usually years after the original chickenpox infection, and the risk increases as we age. The vaccine is used to prevent shingles and the long-lasting nerve pain that follows shingles.
There are two types of vaccination available. The Shingrix vaccination is more effective than the Zostavax.
Shingrix vaccination: 2 doses required – £225 per dose
Zostavax vaccination: 1 dose required – £150
HPV
Any young person between the age of 12 and 18 can receive the HPV vaccine free from the NHS. However, for people who are sexually active who missed the HPV vaccine, there is benefit from the vaccination as they may not yet have acquired all the HPV strains.
HPV vaccination: 2 or 3 doses required – £160 per dose
Pneumonia
Pneumococci can cause infections of the lungs (especially pneumonia) and of the coverings over the brain and spinal cord (meningitis) and in the blood (bacteraemia or septicaemia). The vaccine we offer at Dorset Private GP will help protect against 23 pneumococcal types of virus.
When the vaccine is given the body’s natural defences make antibodies that help to protect against pneumococcal infections.
Pneumonia vaccination: one dose required – £65
Meningitis
Meningococcal disease is caused by a bacterium. These bacteria can be divided into 13 different groups, of which five (groups A, B, C, W and Y) are responsible for nearly all serious meningococcal infections.
Meningitis ACWY Vaccination: 1 dose required – £65
