GP Appointments in Dorchester
Choose a 20, 30 or 40-minute consultation with one of our highly experienced doctors. Appointments at our Poundbury Clinic in Dorchester are available every Tuesday and Thursday morning. Our experienced GPs offer the same level of care you’d expect from an NHS GP, addressing a wide range of health concerns. Whether it’s a routine check-up or management of chronic conditions, we are dedicated to your well-being.

The longer consultations mean that we can take the time to listen to your concerns and together work out the best course of action. Our GPs have the time and resources to address concerns that might be restricted elsewhere.

What does my GP consultation include?
Patients come to see our doctors for many different reasons.
Services Include, but are not limited to:
- Routine check-ups
- Chronic disease management
- Preventive care
- Specialist referrals
- Additional services not commonly available in some NHS surgeries
Medications
- You can collect the medication from a pharmacy of your choice.
- You will be responsible for covering the cost of the prescribed medications. You cannot use any NHS exemptions for payment.
- Most medications are reasonably priced, but we recommend checking the specific costs with the pharmacy where you choose to collect your medication.
Specialist Referrals
During a GP consultation, if the doctor deems it necessary for you to see a specialist, the process and options vary based on the nature of the referral.
1. Fast Track Referral for Urgent Cases:
- If the doctor suspects a potential cancer concern, they may initiate a “Fast Track referral” to the NHS.
- The NHS will promptly contact you with an appointment, ensuring that any required tests or treatment are expedited
2. Specialist Referral for Non-Urgent Cases:
- In cases where a specialist referral is recommended but not urgently tied to cancer concerns, you will have the option to choose between an NHS specialist or a private specialist.
- This gives you the flexibility to decide on the type of care that best aligns with your preferences and needs
Following the referral recommendation, the doctor can arrange any number of specialist referral letters during the same appointment at no extra cost.

Blood, Urine or Swab Tests
During your GP consultation, your doctor may recommend blood, urine, or swab tests to gather comprehensive information about your health.
The price of the blood test(s) is determined by the laboratory cost, but the doctor will be able to confirm the exact price before any tests are carried out.
1. Appointment Duration and Testing:
- In a standard 20-minute GP consultation there may not be enough time for testing, but we can promptly arrange this for you on another day.
- Extended 30 or 40-minute consultations mostly allow the doctor the flexibility to conduct some testing during the same appointment.
2. Test Processing:
- All tests, including blood, urine, and swab tests, are couriered to our designated lab in London at 6pm Monday to Friday.
- Most results are returned to us the next day, with a few exceptions that may take longer.
3. Reviewing Results:
- The moment results are received, a doctor reviews them promptly.
- If results are not urgent or critical, they are left for the GP who initially requested the test(s) for you.
4. Result Communication:
- The GP provides comments on the test(s), and these are promptly emailed to you.
- If you desire a more in-depth discussion about the results, we can arrange a 10-minute telephone call or a face-to-face appointment of 20, 30, or 40 minutes, depending on your preference.
Follow up Appointments
All our appointments are available for you to schedule as frequently as needed.
Telephone Appointments:
- Once you’ve had an initial in-person consultation, you gain access to our convenient 10-minute telephone appointments.
- Ideal for quick chats, follow-up questions, or any concerns you may have, telephone appointments provide a convenient way to connect with our doctors without the need to visit the clinic.
