Blood, Urine, Stool & Swab Testing in Dorchester

In our Poundbury clinic in Dorchester we can quickly and easily carry out any type of testing you require.

We have access to hundreds of tests using one of the largest and leading medical laboratories in the UK. You can simply book in for a blood or swab test without the need to see a GP first. Stool and urine tests can be sent to your home and you can post the sample to the lab in a special pre-paid envelope

Blood Tests

If you have your own blood test kit, you can straightforwardly arrange an appointment with us for just a blood draw. Alternatively, if you would like us to arrange the blood tests using our laboratory, you can simply inform us of what you require and we will swiftly arrange to take your blood and provide you with the results.

If you are unsure which blood tests you require, then please contact us and we can arrange a 30-minute GP consultation which will allow time for blood tests to be taken during the appointment.

Please see the two blood testing options below. For children under 14, we have access to a paediatric phlebotomy service. Please contact us for more information.

Option 1 – Patient Requested Blood Tests using our laboratory

£40 blood draw (phlebotomy) appointment fee plus the laboratory cost of the individual blood test(s). If centrifuging of the blood is required (the majority do not need this) then phlebotomy fee is £70.

If you know which blood test(s) you require, you can simply provide us with the name of the test(s) and we will confirm the laboratory fee and book you a phlebotomy appointment at our clinic. There is no doctor’s consultation and you do not need to be a registered patient or have seen one of our doctors beforehand.

A doctor will not be involved in the process, so we will not be able to advise you what time the test should be taken or whether you should fast first.

In addition to the £40 fee for taking the blood, each blood test is priced individually depending on the laboratory cost for analysis. When the results are sent to us, we directly email them to you. A doctor will not see the results or be able to comment on them. The test result document will show you the exact figure per test and where it falls within the normal limits/parameters.

If you would like a doctor’s advice on any aspect of the blood test, either before or after, then you can book a GP consultation with us (face to face or by phone).

If you would like to know the cost of a specific blood test, please fill in the form at the bottom of this page or call 01202 761150  or email us

We use a private laboratory in London to carry out all of our blood testing. All the samples we collect are couriered directly to the laboratory every evening. Most results are available the next day, but some tests have a longer analysis time.

Option 2 – A blood draw only. Bringing own blood test kit to appointment

£40 phlebotomy fee. This is for patients who have their own testing kit and do not need the use of our laboratory. If centrifuging of the blood is required (the majority do not need this) then phlebotomy fee is £70.

If you are have arranged blood tests through another company, you can bring the blood test kit they provide with you and have the blood draw (phlebotomy) appointment at our clinic. You will then take your completed blood kit with you ready to send off.

Please ensure that you open your blood kit before you book an appointment with us as normally there are special instructions to follow for the tests. Some blood test kits require you to bring a frozen block for the return postage and some tests can only be carried out in the morning or on certain days of the week.

You will be responsible for sending the blood kit off to its destination and they will provide you with the results. However, if you require any advice regarding the results, we can arrange an appointment with a GP. A 20-minute GP appointment is priced at £93.

Do I need to be a registered patient?

As we are a private clinic, you do not need to be registered with us. You can simply book an appointment as and when you would like one. At the time of booking we take some contact information and then send you a form to complete. The form will ask you for some brief health and medical details and it will explain more about the appointment you have booked.

We store your contact information and test results on our secure system. We do not pass your information to any 3rd parties and we will not email you with any clinic updates unless you give your permission.

We are not linked to any NHS systems, so we do not have access to any of your NHS records. This also means we do not automatically send your NHS surgery any details about your visit to our clinic, (unless you request us to specifically let your surgery know).

You can book a one off appointment with us or use us on a regular basis. For blood testing appointments, we do not take payment until after the appointment.

If you have requested the tests yourself, we will email the results directly to you as soon as they come back to us from the laboratory. If you would prefer to not have them sent by email, we can arrange an alternative way.

You will be sent a laboratory document which shows your exact result as well as indicating where your result falls within normal parameters for your age and gender. If your result is abnormal, it will show in red.

You are free to do what you would like with the results. You can show your NHS doctor or seek advice from anywhere else. If you would like to see one of our doctors, you can make an appointment quickly and easily.

Our clinic are based in Bournemouth and Dorchester.

Our Bournemouth clinic at 7 Poole Road, BH2 5QR is open Monday to Friday and we have blood test appointments available most days during the hours of 8.30am until 5.30pm.

Our Dorchester Clinic at Middlemarsh Street, Poundbury, DT1 3FD is open on Tuesday and Thursdays.

Appointments need to be made for blood and swab testing, but we can make arrangements to send you test kits for urine or stool testing. You can drop the  completed sample back to our clinic so that it is taken by courier to the laboratory, or you can use the pre-paid packaging to post the sample to the lab.

Most blood samples which are couriered to the lab will have the test results sent back to us the next day. Some tests have a turn around time which is longer, but we will let you know this. Stool, urine and swab test results tend to take a bit longer than blood testing.

Some specialised tests such as genetic testing can take a few weeks to come back.

When you are booked in for a blood test, we advise you drink 2-3 litres of water before the appointment time. This makes it easier to carry out the blood test.

If you are nervous or a clinician has had difficulty taking your blood in the past, please let us know.

If you are nervous, you can have another person come in with you and we can make arrangements for you to lay down if you prefer.

If you are a person that is tricky to take blood from, please let us know so that we can ensure we select a clinician with experience in taking blood from different areas of the body or in different ways.

As a general rule, we say we can carry out blood testing on children aged 14 and above. If you have a child who is not nervous or has had a blood test before and they are under 14, please contact us.

For babies and children under 14, we can put you in contact with a paediatric phlebotomy service. This service provides highly trained nurses who will visit your home to carry out the testing. Prices start at £70 for the home visit depending on where you live. We arrange to send all of the testing kit to your home and will provide the results of the tests. There is an administration fee of £25 to us and we will charge the laboratory cost of the tests you require for your child.

Please call or email us for more information.
